Austrian Alps

 

Sunset after a day of hiking. We rode the Rax Seilbahn up the mountain and hiked from there. The trails have been well-maintained through these alps for over two hundred years, with mountain huts for refreshments and overnights, though don't expect a luxury spa or even a shower or to refill your water bottle or charge your phone. Do your homework if you are planning an expedition and make sure you have a reservation. That being said, the beauty is unsurpassable.

Edelweiss! The Austrian national flower. Known to Americans from the beloved musical The Sound of Music, which amusingly, is not well known in Austria.
