Winter Solstice Prayer
A year of death. Inconsolable sorrow. I descend into the darkness of these last small days. Darker and darker. Pulled by the steady rhythm of a drumbeat I cannot hear. Shuffling the inevitable steps downward without question. This journey I take into the abyss.
The fragrance of moss, ferns, decay. Scattered pinpoints of light flash. Then nothing.
Take it all. My ego. Its chatter, its harsh judgments, the pain. Burn it all.
Let me rest here in nothingness.
And rise again anew. When the sun can again find me and make me strong.
Stronger than ever before.
